DE Chad Marshall Discusses His Commitment to MSU

Chad Marshall (6-2, 240, MS. Delta CC), a Mississippi junior college first-team all-state selection, talked about his verbal commitment to Mississippi State this past weekend. He will sign in February and graduate in May.

Chad Marshall Profile:

What schools are recruiting you?
"The University of Houston, Texas A&M, New Mexico State, Louisiana-Lafayette. My coaches have told me there are some other schools that are recruiting me, but I haven't paid any attention to any of them. There are a lot of schools coming in and checking us out."

What schools have offered you scholarships?
"Houston and Mississippi State."

When did Mississippi State offer you?
"One or two weeks ago."

Why did you decide to commit to State?
"I like that they are real young and they have leaders on their team, and I'm a leader myself. I see good things in the future for them. A lot of schools are losing a lot of their players, but 85% of their team is staying. And I like the coaching staff, too."

Which MSU coach is recruiting you?
"Brick Haley, the defensive line coach."

What does he like about you?
"He likes the way I speed rush and how well I run. I get all over the field when I run."

Being 6-2, 240, it looks like you could also play linebacker. Is State's coaches recruiting you for any other position other than defensive end?
"No, they are recruiting me as a defensive end."

Has that been the position that you have always played?
"No, I played middle linebacker coming out of Treutlen High School in Soperton, Georgia. I was all-region, all-state and region defensive player of the year my senior year."

What colleges recruited you when you were in high school?
"There were some big-time schools that recruited me out of high school, but grades hurt me then."
