Recruiting Update: DL Antonio Forbes

Antonio Forbes (6-4, 265, 4.65), one of the mostly highly recruited high school defensive linemen in the south, has offers from schools in conferences such as the SEC, ACC, Big East, Big Ten and C-USA . Antonio, who played his high school ball at Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, GA., talked about the colleges that have made in-school and in-home visits, what schools he either has or will officially visit and who his favorites are.

Antonio Forbes Profile

With coaches now able to take in-home visits, just this week, Antonio has entertained coaches at home and at his school, with more set to visit.

"Minnesota and Alabama have come to my home," said Forbes. "Arkansas is supposed to be coming Sunday. And Alabama is coming again. The (Alabama) head coach and the defensive lineman (coach) are coming tomorrow (Thursday). At school, I visited the coaches from Louisville, Virginia Tech and UK (Kentucky). The day before that, the coach from UGA (Georgia) was down there, Mississippi State and Wake Forest."

And in-home visits aren't the only thing he has a lot of. He has so many scholarship offers it's becoming almost impossible to remember them all.

"UGA, Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M, Virginia, Arkansas, Louisville have offered...I forget all of the schools (that have offered)," Forbes said.

As far as official visits, he already has one completed and more to come.

"I've set up two (visits)," said Forbes. "I went to Arkansas last week (December 3-5) and I'm going to Alabama January 7th. And I'm looking at taking one to Virginia either the 14th, 15th and 16th or 20-something."

He's undecided where he will take his final two visits.

"I'm thinking about taking one to Florida State," said the articulate Forbes. "I don't know what I'm going to do with my last one."

What does he think about one other school that he has received an in-school visit from, Mississippi State?

"Mississippi State is a good school," said Forbes. "If I I have room I may even set up an official visit to Mississippi State. I'm not counting them out. They are up there, but the only thing is I was just kind of skeptical about the probation thing. I really didn't like that too much. But I respect the coaches. There is something about the coaches. Coach Beamer is so down-to-earth. He made me feel comfortable. He shares the same interests as me. And the head coach, he is a real good man."

Although he knows very little about Coach Croom, he will get to meet him face to face for the first time next week.

"(MSU's Coaches Beamer and Croom) are supposed to be coming in sometime next week," said Forbes. "They sent a package showing how (Coach Croom) has changed the program there and how he is one of the first black (SEC head football) coaches."

What schools are atop his list at the moment?

"Arkansas, Alabama, Florida State, Virginia and, of course, Mississippi State," said Forbes.

What are the things that he will take into consideration when he selects his college?

"I really have to sit down and make a list academically, and where I'm going to be able to play," said Forbes. "That is the most important thing. I like all these schools, but it's going to all boil down to where I can play. I want to go where I can play as a freshman or a redshirt freshman. If Georgia and Florida State have a big depth chart, then I may look at a school like Mississippi State because they may not have a lot of linemen and need me more. And I can play earlier there."
