WILLIE EVANS TALKS ABOUT HIS MSU VISIT

[Premium article] Willie Evans, a first-team all-state defensive lineman/fullback from Wayne County (MS) High School, officially visited Mississippi State the weekend of January 11-13th. Here is my interview with him about how his trip went.

Willie, you visited Mississippi State this past weekend. I'm calling to see how it went? Did you fly or drive up there?
"I drove to Laurel, then flew to Jackson to pick up (Jerious) Norwood and some other players. We then flew to Mississippi State."

Was that the first time you have flown?
"I haven't flow before. It was fun."

What time did you get to Starkville?
"About 4:30 to 4:45."

What did you do once you got to Starkville?
"We went to check into our hotel. The players that were there went to eat (at the Golden Horn restaurant), while I went to meet with Coach Sherrill Friday. I came straight to the restaurant with Coach Sherrill after our meeting."

How long did you talk to him?
"I believe it was about 15 to 30 minutes."

Was that the first time that you have talked to him?
"He was a good guy, no doubt."

Who was your host for the weekend?
"Justin Jenkins."

What did you think about him?
"Oh, Justin, he is a good guy. We had a lot of fun together."

Did you know him prior to this past weekend?
"Actually, I didn't. Coach Boyles, my head coach, he knew him because he coached him at Pearl."

Where did you eat breakfast the next morning?
"We ate in the lobby of the hotel."

What did you do after breakfast?
"We went around the campus and went to academic meetings."

What did you think about Mississippi State's facilities?
"They have some nice facilities. From what I saw, they have some of the best facilities in the country. It doesn't get any better than that."

What did you during the afternoon?
"We went on a tour of the campus that afternoon, then went to the fieldhouse, and the strength coach (Mike Grant) talked to us. After we left the fieldhouse, we (toured) the Sanderson (Rec) Center. After that, we went back to the hotel and did whatever we wanted to until 6 o'clock. At 6:15 we left to eat dinner."

Did you eat in the club level area of the stadium?
"Yes sir."

What did you think about the club level?
"Oh man, it is awesome. From where I am from, I don't see that everyday. I was impressed."

What did you think about the highlight films of the other players?
"They were awesome. I see why they were there and why they are top recruits."

Did you get to know all the other players?
"Yea, I got to know them all. I thought they were all good guys, especially Norwood and Darren Williams."

Did you form a friendship with any certain players?
"I hung out with all of them, but I was close to Brett Morgan. I am kind of close to him. He is a good guy."

I know you are a Southern Miss commitment. Now that you have been able to officially visit Mississippi State, what is your impression of State after taking the visit?
"I wasn't really thinking about State because I was committed to Southern. After going up there and seeing the campus, I liked it a lot."

Is is making your choice tougher now?
"Yea, oh yea."

What do you think you are going to do now? Are you going to stick with Southern?
"I am debating it. I have a lot of reasons to stay with Southern and I have a lot of reasons to go to State. I don't really know. I am still thinking about it. I have to make a choice."

When are you going to make your final decision?
"I don't really know when I will make my decision. I just hope that I make the right decision. This is going to be the biggest decision of my life, so far."

Thanks for your time, Willie.
"You are welcome."
