Carpenter is one of the top offensive linemen in the state of Alabama and he is a candidate for an honor that proves it.
"I am a candidate for the 5A Lineman of the Year," said Carpenter, who will travel with his parents to Birmingham for the Wednesday banquet. "There are three candidates. It includes both offense and defense."
Several college coaches and even one college athletic director have come in for in-home visit as well as in-school visits.
"Randy Butler from Southern Miss came in last Monday. Rick Trickett from West Virginia came in either Thursday or Friday. I got an offer from West Virginia right before he came. (MSU assistant) Coach Kitchens has come down to my school several times. He plans on coming down for an in-home visit next week and Coach Croom wants to get down at the beginning of the year. Ole Miss' athletic director came down and wants to set up an official visit toward the end of January."
So far, one school has lined up an official visit with many more trying to get Carpenter in.
"As of right now, I only have one scheduled, Mississippi State January 14th. Other schools that want me to come in for visits are Southern Miss, Ole Miss, UAB and West Virginia. All of them have offered and all four want me in for a visit."
Who is atop his list?
"Mississippi State is my favorite."
What is it about Mississippi State that he likes so much?
"I love Coach Croom," said the 17-year old Carpenter. "I think he is going to be a great coach who will turn the program around there at State."
