[Premium article] Shannon High School quatrback Ken Topps, a Dandy Dozen and All-State selection, officially visited Mississippi State this past weekend. Here is my interview with him.

"The visit was great. I had a lot of fun. I liked the overall campus."

"I spent most of my time with (running back) Fred Reid. Fred is a real nice fellow. He seemed to enjoy spending time with me.

"I also met professors in my probable field of study (sport medicine). They explained hourly requirements to myself and to the other recruits also interested in the same field of study."

Ken said being already acquainted with members of the Jackson (MS) Clarion Ledger's Dandy Dozen (of which he is also a member) who themselves were also visiting officially, made him feel right at home. " I already know a good bit of them. Jerious Norwood, Darren Williams, Deljuan Robinson, they were all there. So I pretty much talked to all of them."

Ken seemed excited about the prospect of playing several years with these guys. "I think this is a real good situation for me because we all got together and talked about it and we realized that we are a part of a good class being put together. I believe we have a good chance of winning something."

Ken said that he really wants to play quarterback and that he has not been talked to about playing any other position.

Ken committed before visiting the campus explaining that, "it was nothing that the coaches sold me on or told me. I just watched the program and I liked the school and it is close to home. It is just something that I wanted to do."
