Recruiting Update: Jared Cook

North Gwinnet High School wide receiver Jared Cook talked recruiting with Gene's Page.

Jared Cook Profile

Suwanee, Georgia, like so many other towns with highly recruited athletes, has been a hot spot for recruiters the past two weeks.

"Ohio State, Tulane, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Arkansas have visited either in my house or at school," said Jared Cook, who plays for North Gwinnet High School in Suwanee. "They've been coming in all this week and all last week. (MSU assistant) Coach Beamer came in yesterday."

Not only have the visitors poured in, but scholarship offers have as well.

"All of those schools and Missouri and Western Michigan have offered," said Cook, a three-star athlete who is ranked by Scout.com as the 30th best player in Georgia and the 3rd best wide receiver.

Cook has set up two official visits and is talking to a third school about a visit.

"I've set up visits with Mississippi State and South Carolina," said the 6-5, 210-pound wide receiver with 4.5 speed in the forty and a 35" vertical leap. "South Carolina is the 7th (of January) and Mississippi State is the 21st (of January). I'm also talking to Ohio State about an official visit."

Those three are also his favorites at the moment, although in past interviews with Scout.com he has listed Mississippi State as his leader. Does he still consider them as his leader?

"Yes, I do," said Cook. "It is a great school and they have the potential to have a good program."

Have the MSU coaches told him what they like about him?

"They said I'm a big receiver and they want someone who can go up and catch the ball up high."

With so many players commiting early, has he committed to Mississippi State?

"No sir, I haven't committed to any school. It will probably be after I make my MSU visit."

What is he looking for in a school?

"I'm looking for good academics and a place where I can come in and make a definite impact."

Cook is also a good basketball player who is ranked as high in basketball as he is in football. Will he attempt to play both in college or stick to football?

"I was considering playing both sports, but I know I have a better chance to go to the next level and be more successful in football." said Cook, who was recruited by Mercer, Missouri, Wisconsin and Colorado in basketball. "It may be something that I may try after my freshman year."
