How did your season go this year?
"We were 9-2 and 1," said the first-team All-State selection. "We advanced to the South State semi-finals and got put out by Oak Grove by one point. I had 71 pancakes and zero sacks allowed."
When did Coach Croom visit you in-home?
"Coach Croom came in about two weeks ago."
How was the visit?
"Basically, he came in and touched base with my parents, really to introduce himself and get to meet with them and see what kind of people they are. He talked about my official visit, which is going to be January 15th. He told us about the new facilities and the facilities that are being remodeled. They are building a freshman dorm and will build a sophomore dorm when I'm a sophomore there. I'll be staying in two new dorms my first two years there."
What did your parents think about him after meeting him for the first time?
"They said he is just a great guy. They gave me the green light to go. My mom just loved him. They said they don't mind putting me in his hands for the next four to five years. They had already seen him on ESPN and the local news channel due to all the interviews that he's done. They've seen how he handles himself in those type situations and can't help but admire a person like that."
Have the MSU coaches explained to you what they expect from you your freshman season?
"They said I won't redshirt. I'm going to move from left tackle to left guard."
The last time I talked to you, you were about 6-4 and 280 pounds. Has anything changed?
"I'm now 6-4.25 and weigh 300 pounds," said Spencer, who weighed 240 pounds this time last year. He's also kept his excellent speed despite the added weight. "I still run a 4.9 (forty)."
Since you committed early, you missed out on a lot of the recruiting hype. Did you miss it?
"I didn't miss the calls. And I still got my share of offers from schools like West Virginia, Southern Miss and Marshall. The reason I stayed so true to Mississippi State is because I am a man of my word."
