Michael, who has grown up a Mississippi State fan, turned down several scholarship offers to follow his dream of being a Bulldog.

During the past three seasons, Michael has recorded almost 240 tackles (131 solos), 10 sacks, 29 tackles for losses and 13 fumble recoveries.

He has earned several honors the past two seasons: All-Region 1-5A Defense First-Team, All-Desoto County Defense First-Team and OBHS Best Defensive Lineman. PrepStar listed him on their pre-season All-Region team. He was also named All-Conference in track (shot-put) during the 2001 season.

An avid weight-lifter, Michael bench pressed 405 pounds at the 2001 Ole Miss camp and squatted 560 pounds at OBHS. He has recorded a forty-yard dash best time of 4.97 seconds.

During his career at OBHS, he has played every position on the defensive line. He can also play the offensive line and is willing to do so if that is his best position in college.

Michael is a very good student who has a 3.20 gpa and has recorded a 20 on his ACT. He plans on enrolling at Mississippi State the second semester this coming summer.

He received numerous recruiting letters from D-I schools, including MSU, Illinois, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Colorado State, Notre Dame and many others. This past summer, he attended camps at MSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Southern Miss, Delta State and Memphis.

According to his dad, Mike, "Michael did not want to play anywhere else but MSU and could have taken several scholarship opportunities elsewhere. His mom and I finally gave in to him because he would not have been really happy anywhere else. Scholarship or not, he's had a good year and we just could not find it in our hearts to force him somewhere else."
