[Premium article] Sam Olajubutu, Jr. (5-10, 205, 4.5) was selected as the Georgia 3A Defensive Player of the Year and was also a consensus first-team All-State selection. He made 170 tackles, including 25 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, this year for Lagrange High School. Sam is not only an outstanding player, but a good student who will easily qualify. Sam committed to Mississippi State this past Monday morning. Here is my interview with him about his commitment to Mississippi State.

I'm trying to get in touch with Sam. This is Gene Swindoll of Gene's Page.
"This is Sam."

The Clarion-Ledger had you listed as committing to Mississippi State. Is that correct?
"Yes sir."

When did you commit?

Why factors led you to commit to Mississippi State?
"I just felt like that was the best place for me. The academics at Mississippi State was a factor."

If I remember correctly from our first interview, Mississippi State is recruiting you as a Dog Safety. Isn't that correct?
"Yes sir, they are."

Did that play a part in your decision?
"Yes sir, that is a good position for me."

The last time we talked you mentioned that you have a visit scheduled to Arkansas this coming weekend. Are you still going to take that visit?
"I am still going to take that visit."

Getting back to your commitment, did you call and commit or did a coach call you and you commit to him while on the phone?
"Coach Tompkins woke me up Monday morning (laugh). He called me at about 9 o'clock and woke me up and talked to me. I had thought about (committing) the night before. I just told him that I would like to come down there and play."

I guess he was excited to hear that from you?
"(Laugh) Yes sir."

Have you talked to Coach Sherrill about your commitment?
"Yes sir, as a matter of fact, they just left from my house about an hour ago. They stayed about 45 minutes."

I won't take anymore of your time, Sam. Thanks for taking the time to talk to me.
