Recruiting Update: Michael Gates Down to Two

Michael Gates, a 6-5, 260-pounder who played tight end for Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, GA., but expects to play on the offensive line in college, has narrowed his list to two schools.

Michael Gates Profile

Did you officially visit Kentucky this weekend?
"No, I cancelled the visit."

Who else have you scheduled visits with?
"Mississippi State on January 14th and Ole Miss after that."

Who would you say are your favorite schools?
"Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

What are you looking for in the college that you will ultimately choose?
"I want to go to the school with the best business courses and accounting, because that is what I want to do."

Athletically, what are you looking for?
"I want to go to the place where I have the best possible chance to play. I'm not expecting to play a lot my freshman year, but I do kind of want to get out there and, I guess, get my feet wet. I don't want to just sit there. I just want to get some experience."

The last time we talked it sounded like most schools were looking to move you to offensive line. Are both of your favorites looking at you at that position?

Do you mind moving to offensive line from tight end?
"No, it doesn't matter."

I know you once said you are growing so much, you will grown into an offensive lineman. Have you grown any since we last talked?
"I'm still 6-5, but I've gained about 10 pounds. I'm up to 260, now. I've been lifting a lot of weights."

Currently, Gates has offers from nine schools: Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Ohio University, East Carolina, Troy State, Ball State, Hofstra and Middle Tennessee State.
