Three Future Bulldogs Rack up the Honors

OL Johnny Carpenter, CB/WR Tay Bowser and QB Ty Evans, three players who committed to Mississippi State early in the recruiting process, have taken home their share of postseason honors.

Carpenter, a 6-3, 285-pound offensive lineman who played for Citronelle High School in Alabama, was one of three finalists for the 5A Lineman of the Year Award in Alabama this past season. In addition to that, he was a five-game starter his freshman season (a rare feat for his school), a second-team All-Region selection his sophomore year, a first-team All-Region selection his junior season and first-team All-State selection his senior season.

Bowser, a great athlete who played both cornerback and wide receiver this past season for Gilmer (TX) High School, earned first-team All-District as a senior - his first year to start - and honorable mention All-District his junior season. His 64-yard touchdown reception in the Texas 3A classification state championship game was the game-winner. Tay, also an excellent track athlete, has a 6-6 high jump to his credit.

Lexington (TN) High School quarterback Ty Evans, a four-year starter, threw for 1,552 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season. For his efforts, he was awarded first-team All-State, first-team All West Tennessee and All-Region Offensive Most Valuable Player. As a junior, he was selected honorable mention All-State (all classes).

All three youngsters are excellent students in the classroom and will easily qualify.
