Q and A with Richard Dickson

Describe the type player that you are.
"I play very aggressive. At tight end, I'm quicker than most linebackers that have to cover me. I'm strong enough to block anybody on the defensive line. As a defensive end, my quickness is good and I have the strength to bull rush. I also have real good hands from playing basketball."

Have you attended any college camps?
"Last summer I attended the Auburn and Alabama camps. I also went to a bunch of 7 on 7 camps with my team. We went to LSU, Tulane, Southeast Louisiana, Hinds Community College and, I think, Jones County Junior College.

"This summer, I am probably going to the LSU and Alabama camps. I really want to make it up to the Tennessee camp. Coach (David) Cutcliffe, from Notre Dame, called my coach. I really want to attend their camp. I am also probably going to both Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

Have the college coaches at the camps that you attended told you which position they like you?
"Usually, they tell me to play both positions. At the start of the camp, I'll start at tight end and go to defensive end at the end of the camp."

What schools are sending you letters?
"Oklahoma State, Michigan, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Miami, Georgia Tech, Nebraska and Rice."

Have you received any scholarship offers?
"I received two offers. Ole Miss offered me last week and Mississippi State offered me two days ago."

Who are your top five schools at this point?
"Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma State."

    Why those five?
"The main thing I like about Mississippi State is their tight end this year was a redshirt freshman. He earned All-SEC. That means he is getting a lot of touches.

"What I like about Ole Miss is my sister is a junior there, so I have family up there.

"I like the stadium at Tennessee because it is so big and seems to have a really good atmosphere to play in.

"Alabama is one of those schools that has the name. It has so much history behind it.

"I have a good friend in Texas. That's where I used to live. He is being recruited heavily by Oklahoma State. We've been talking."

You mentioned that Mississippi State has a redshirt freshman starting for them at tight end. Most guys, when they look at a depth chart check to see how many young guys are at their positive. However, his youth doesn't seem to bother you at all.
"He will be a sophomore this year. If I go up there and get redshirted, he would be a junior. Then, my first year he would be a senior. As many touches as he is getting, I know that they would use me a lot."

Since you start at both tight end and defensive end, which do you prefer?
"I really like tight end because it is so exciting, but I like defensive end just about as much, so I can't really say."

Which position do you feel you are better at?
"I feel I'm about the same at both. I have my strong points at tight end and my strong points at defensive end."
