Q and A with Coach Mike Bennett

Didn't Courtney Jones commit to Mississippi State?
"Yes, we talked about it a few minutes ago. He is excited about it. He went to Mississippi State's camp last summer. I also think he went up there, unofficially, this year. He and (MSU signee) Adron Chambers are very close and are good friends. He talked to Coach McCorvey and Coach Croom a couple of times and likes what they are doing. They got a real good football player."

Did he tell you why he decided to commit to Mississippi State?
"He told me that he didn't really want to go through the recruiting process and that he is glad it's over. He is pretty firmly committed to Mississippi State."

FloridaKids, a site on Scout.com, has him listed as the top running back in the state of Florida. What are the qualities that Courtney has that causes him to be ranked that high?
"He is 6-0 tall and 210 pounds, but he plays like he is 6-2, 230. He is very strong, very athletic, can stand flat-footed and do a back flip. He plays basketball. He works extremely hard. On the football field, he is a guy that always wants the football. He played linebacker for me as a 10th grader, but I moved him to tailback toward the end of the year. He did a heck of a job for us. He is definitely a blue chipper and an outstanding football player."

Since he committed so earlier, do you feel his commitment is firm?
"With him, I think it will be. Courtney thinks things through. He is not one to just make a decision. He likes Mississippi State and likes what is going on up there. Of course, anything can happen, but I think this will be a firm commitment. Coach McCorvey and Coach Croom will stay on him."

Q and A with Courtney Jones

How would you describe yourself as a player?
"I do whatever it takes to win. I refuse to lose. I do the details off the field as well."

You wear the number 34. Was there a reason for that?
"Yeah, because I like Walter Payton."

    Who are your favorite schools?
"I like Mississippi State. Others that I like are Florida, Auburn and Nebraska. That's about it."

What do you like about each of the schools?
Mississippi State - "It seems like they have good chemistry. I met some of the coaches and they all seem to be on the same page. I think it would be a good opportunity for me."

Florida - "I've liked Florida ever since I knew what college football was. They were my favorite team."

Auburn - "I like them because ever since Montra went there I've been interested in them. I played Little League and was a Tiger and wanted to be a Tiger going through college."

Nebraska - "Ever since Tommie Frazier was there, I've like them. I liked how they ran the option."

You grew up liking the last three. When did Mississippi State get into the picture?
