Lady Bulldogs to Face Arkansas in SEC Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The six-seed Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (17-10, 6-8 SEC) will face the 11-seed Arkansas Lady Razorbacks (15-12, 3-11 SEC) on Thursday, March 3 at 9:15 p.m. ET in the first round of the 2005 SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C. The game will be televised on FSN South.

With the 75-68 overtime win over Auburn, MSU concluded the regular season in sixth place in the SEC after predicted to finish tied for seventh. Both Auburn and MSU finished with 6-8 conference records but State won the head-to-head competition.

First team all-SEC selection Tan White is leading the nation and the SEC in scoring with 23.0 points per game. She tallied 34 points in the overtime victory vs. Auburn. Senior guard Tiania Burns is second on the team with 10.6 points per game.

MSU is 11-25 overall in the SEC Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs have an 8-16 First Round record, advancing to the Second Round nine times (2-7), to the Semifinals twice (1-1) and Finals once (0-1). MSU has yet to win an SEC Championship.

Since the meeting earlier this season, Arkansas has gone 4-7 in competition and is most recently riding a four-game losing skid. The Lady Razorbacks finished out the regular season 3-11 in the SEC with an 11th place finish. Sophomore forward Sarah Pfeifer leads the team with 11.2 points per game and sophomore forward Danielle Allen is second with 9.5 points per game.

Arkansas leads the series 10-9, including its 83-71 win in Fayetteville earlier this season. This marks the fourth meeting with the Lady Razorbacks in the SEC Tournament. State is 2-1 overall in neutral sites, including the 79-74 victory in the meeting at the 2004 SEC Tournament.
