Q and A with Jared Norton
What college camps do you plan on going to this summer?
"I am looking at the Texas camp, the Franchione (Texas A&M) camp."
Who have offered you scholarships?
"I have been offered by Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Arizona, Mississippi State, Purdue and Kansas. Those have actually sent the papers (with the offers). I've also talked to (Arkansas') Coach Nutt. He said they are very interested. I've also talked to Nebraska, Notre Dame and NC State."
It sounds like you have this figured out. What schools do you call the most?
"I've talked to A&M and Texas the most, but I call all of them."
Who offered first?
"My first offer was Mississippi State. It was either the day of or the day after the senior signing date."
Did you know much about Mississippi State prior to the offer?
"No, but my coach has told me about them a couple of times. I've talked to their head coach. I called him about two to three weeks ago."
What did you think about Coach Croom?
"He sounded like a good man. He talked about having a championship ring and being in the NFL. He sounded like a nice guy. I also talked to Coach (J.B.) Grimes. He's my recruiting coach."
Who are your favorite colleges?
"Texas and Texas A&M are both high. Also list Oklahoma as high. All the rest are medium."
Where does Mississippi State fit in your recruitment?
"They are on my list because I like Coach Croom. Right now, I haven't been on a visit there. I'm going to do some visits during the summer."
How would you describe yourself as a player?
"I'll tell you what (Texas') Mack Brown told me. He said that I have the body type of Derrick Johnson. They are looking for tall, lean, fast linebackers that can hit. I can also read guards very well. I have real good instincts and have a knack for the ball."
