Aries Nelson: " It feels good. No more late night phone calls."
What attracted you to Mississippi State?
Aries Nelson: " They have a good coaching staff, and there a lot of players up there from around here that we already know."
Corvelli Haynes: " Mississippi State has good facilities and a good work program. I've been up there a few times so I am basically familiar with the campus."
How does it feel to be playing close to home so your family can come and watch?
Aries Nelson: " It feels pretty good, but the best thing about it is that we get to be on TV. We also get to travel places we've never been, like the first game is Oregon."
What was the selling point for Mississippi State?
Aries Nelson: " ....it's a free education to a big time school." (I noticed Corvelli shaking his head in agreement to Aries' response)
Who recruited you two for Mississippi State?
Aries and Corvelli: "Coach Smith."
Your old coach is at Valley now and a lot of people thought you might go there ( to Aries).
Aries Nelson: "I know a lot of people at Valley and I really wanted to go somewhere new and be able to meet people. I had to do what was best for me."
Do you plan on playing quarterback?
Aries Nelson: " Yes...Yes...I have to play quarterback, I can't catch." ( the whole room cracked up at that one)
Are you guys planning on attending the summer workout?
Aries and Corvelli: " Yes sir."
[Aries told me they showed him pictures of it and that he and Corvelli were starting Monday after their last basketball game to get ready. - Ben]
Corvelli, when did you know you had what it took to play in the SEC...after all, you have only been playing football for two years?
Corvelli Haynes: " I played in Junior High so it was already in my blood. After our spring game, I performed pretty good. Then after Georgia ( Summer Camp ), I performed well there too."
A couple of side notes:
I talked to their coach, and he said that both "are straight" when it comes to being qualified. Aries seemed like the talker of the two. In fact, Corvelli, when he walked in, jokingly said, "no questions after the pictures."
Aries told me that since the end of his spring game until now, he had, at one time or another, received offers from every SEC school except Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina. Corvelli got offered by Georgia at their camp this summer, or at least that is the impression I got.
There were a few media people there, so not all questions were asked by me. The ones there included The Bolivar Commercial, WXVT-TV15 out of Greenville, and WABG-TV6 out of Greenville.
