"It was good to play good competition early. It was a good test for us.
Talk about the games coming up this week.
"I'm hearing that this Louisiana Tech team is their best ever. They are all seniors. I don't know much about Louisiana-Monroe. It is tough to go on the road when it is freezing cold. Hitters don't hit the ball well when it is cold. Hopefully, our pitchers throw well."
Who will you throw Tuesday?
"We will throw Jeff Lacher. I'm not sure who we will throw Wednesday. We will go back to the same rotation next weekend that we threw this weekend."
Do you know when junior college transfer Jacob Blakeney will throw?
"He hasn't thrown very much because of the broken hand. He was picked as our sixth pitcher in the fall evaluation. I hope he will be ready to go in another week. As you can see, we have enough pitchers. In fact, we have too many pitchers. It is just a matter of keeping them in the go-go mode."
Talk about the backup catchers, J.B. Tucker and Reed Hawkins.
"Both Reed and J.B. swung the bat pretty good in the scrimmage games. I have to keep both of them sharp. If Burkley goes down, then they would have to go in and catch."
BRENT LEWIS QUOTES:
"We haven't been swinging the bats very well the last couple of days. J.B. (Tucker) finally got a good pitch and got into one. Then everybody seemed to swing the bat a little better the last couple of innings. I just wish we could have finished it. It is kind of frustrating. I wish we could have started earlier but it Sunday and everybody has to go to church and (Ohio State) had to get home."
Talk about the weekend as a whole. It seemed like the guys kind of loosen up as the games went on. Was it a case of the nerves early on?
"Yeah, or me there was. I was playing third and was a little nervous at first. The first ball hit to me was kind of tough on me. That didn't help much. I think everybody loosen up. There were a few guys - J.B. (Tucker), Jon Mungle and Reed (Hawkins) - who got to play this weekend and they didn't get to play last year."
A tie has got to be better than losing.
"It is better than losing but it isn't winning, especially coming back from five runs in the 7th and 8th innings."
Now that you have three games under your belt, do you now know what to work on?
"I feel as a whole we have to swinging the bats a little bit better. We just need to get a little fire under us and we will be alright."
The pitching wasn't as sharp as anticipated, but you have to feel they will get better.
"Oh definitely, our guys can throw. Ohio State is a good team and we have to give them credit for hitting our pitchers. Yesterday, we had some bad breaks. If a couple of sun balls were caught, we are right in that game."
What kind of pitch did you hit when you hit your home run?
Was (the Ohio State pitcher) getting tired when you guys hit your home runs?
"I don't really know. My second at bat I think I missed the same pitch I hit out my third at bat. I finally put a good swing on it for the first time all weekend."
CASEY LONG QUOTES:
Do you think some of the guys were pressing a little bit?
"With just three weeks of practicing we hadn't seen much pitching. It was tough coming out here hitting live pitching. It just takes a while to get in the groove."
It almost seemed like the two home runs woke up the hitters.
"It was huge for us to get those two home runs. J.B.'s home run was huge."
