Smith, who has recorded the best vertical jump (42.5") and second best broad jump (10'3") of all participants in all of Scout.com's combines through last Sunday, has seen several college coaches visit his school during his team's spring practice.
Not only are schools visiting, but several have also made their one spring recruiting telephone call.
Three of those four schools have made Smith's early favorites list.
He explained what he likes about each school.
"I love Texas. Texas has been one of my favorite teams since I first knew about football. I like the way their defense is set up, the front that they run."
"I like Ole Miss' facility and their coaching staff is very confident and hyper.
"I haven't thought too much about Mississippi State, but I like Coach Croom and that they are an in-state school.
"Auburn, I like the way the whole team loves winning.
"LSU, I like the way their defense is set up, too.
"Most of my family likes Alabama. A couple of them went to Alabama."
As of now, Smith plans on attending summer football camps at all of his favorite schools with the exception of one.
"I'm going to camps at Alabama, Auburn, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas," said Smith, who recored 139 tackles, including 39 for a loss, last season.
