In most parts of the country, school ended just a few weeks ago. In the past, high school football players could then concentrate solely on what camps they are going to attend, with the hopes of impressing the coaches enough so that they could earn a scholarship offer. Not so, with Dimitri Lott. Offers? He's received his share already.
"Texas Tech, OSU (Oklahoma State), Georgia Tech, U of H (Houston), TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, Utah, New Mexico State, Mississippi State, Northwestern SMU, Indiana and Central Florida are some that have offered," said Lott, who received his first offer from TCU. Those aren't all, though. "There are so many that I have forgotten all of them. I think I have about 16 total."
Despite not really having to, he's still planning on attending a few camps this summer.
"I am going to go to OSU's and TCU's camps," said Lott. "I'm also going to the Texas A&M camp."
Texas A&M wasn't one of the schools that he mentioned as having received an offer from. Are they close to offering?
"My coach said they were (going to offer), but they haven't gotten my letter in yet," said Lott.
With so many offers already on the table, has he had a chance to come up with a list of his favorite schools, maybe a top 5?
"My top 5 would be OSU, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Kansas State and Mississippi State," said Lott.
What does he like about each school?
"I like OSU's offense because it's similar to ours," said Lott. "They also have my major, Hotel Management and Business Management. I like Texas Tech because I like a passing offense, too. I'm a good pass blocker and they mostly pass. That's the main reason I like them. I like Georgia Tech's surroundings. Their football team is pretty good, too. But, I haven't heard a lot about them. Kansas State...that's Kansas State. I like their football (program). I don't know much about Mississippi State, but I like their recruiting coach (Brick Haley). I liked the vibe that I got from him."
"Not really," said Lott.
