Class of 2006 Prospect - LA. RB Chris Brown

Chris Brown (5-10.5, 197, 4.45). Remember that name because, when it's all said and done, he may wind up being one of the top running backs in the south. And fans of Mississippi State will be glad to know that their school has made his early list of favorite colleges.

Chris Brown Profile:

With Mississippi State about to graduate its starting running back, Jerious Norwood, running back is a top priority. And Alexandria (LA) High School running back Chris Brown may be just what the doctor ordered.

Over the course of the last three years, he has rushed for a whopping 4,414 yards and scored over 50 touchdowns.

And those stats haven't gone unnoticed. His offers prove that.

Brown claims offers from,"TCU, Alabama, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Oklahoma and Arkansas. My first offer was Alabama, then Southern Miss"

Brown mentioned why the coaches at those schools like him so much.

"They said they like my vision," said Brown, who claims a 4.4 forty, 285 bench press and 450 squat. "They said I can see the hole and make a cut without stopping. And when I'm running, I have a fluid style of running which makes me look like I'm not running hard."

As of now, Brown has a short list of five. And yes, Mississippi State made the cut.

"I would say Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, TCU and Mississippi State are my top five," said Brown.

Brown explained in detail what he likes about each of his favorites.

"I like Arkansas' coaching staff," said Brown, who has a 33-inch vertical leap to his credit. "They have a real good coaching staff. And it's not too far from home. I have grown up watching Arkansas. And I know they run the ball.

"Oklahoma is Oklahoma. They are the best. When someone like Oklahoma offers you a scholarship, even if you don't get a chance to go there, that is something to be proud of. I like the program that they have because they are around the national championship every year.

"Alabama is a good school. There are a lot of teachers from my school that attended Alabama and they talk so good about Alabama. And it is a good school with a nice environment. It is probably one of the most beautiful campuses that you would ever visit.

"TCU is smaller than the ones that I have named, but it's still a nice school. They have had a lot of good running backs that have come out of there like LaDainian Tomlinson (1997-00). As far as making you work hard, of all the coaches that I have talked to, he is the one coach that has told me that he's not going to let me come here and goof off. He's going to pound me. I like that.

"I really don't know anything about Mississippi State. I watch them sometimes on tv. It seems like a nice school, a nice stadium. I've been told that they have a pretty good sports medicine program and that's the field that I'm majoring in."

Does he know much about MSU's head coach, Sylvester Croom?

"I don't know much about Coach Croom," said Brown, a top sprinter who won the state in the 300 meter hurdles "I talked to him one time on the phone. He told me that he is very excited about me. He seems to be real hard and goes about his business."
