When asked what schools are showing interest in him, Hawkins, instead of naming individual schools, simply named a conference.
"Every team from the SEC is showing interest in me," said Hawkins. "Oklahoma and a couple of SWAC teams are also showing interest."
And he's not kidding, based on his early offers.
"Oklahoma, Louisville, Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas and LSU have offered," said Hawkins, who received spring recruiting calls from Louisville, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Auburn, Clemson and Illinois. "Oklahoma was the first one to offer. I think they offered during spring practice."
When asked to name a top five, Hawkins didn't hesitate.
"Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisville, Auburn and Mississippi State," said Hawkins.
He also let it be known that none lead over the others.
"They are all the same," said Hawkins. "None are higher than the others."
He explained in detail what he likes about each school.
"Oklahoma's (won-loss) record impressed me," said Hawkins, who became a hot recruit after playing so well in the North/South Alabama Junior All-Star game in December. "I think it's something like 68 and 10. I like Arkansas' coaching staff. They break it down so that I know what is going on. Louisville has been behind me from day one. I think they started recruiting me at the end of my sophomore year. Auburn is like Louisville, they have been behind me from day one. I have been a pretty good fan of the (Mississippi State) Bulldogs. I follow them a lot by watching them on tv. I started watching them about a year and a half ago. That's when I really started paying attention to college football. I want to learn about them. I am going to make them one of my official visits."
We know what schools like him. Have the schools told him why he has become such a hot commodity on the recruiting front?
"They like my character and that I am coachable," said the quiet-spoken Hawkins. "And that I run like a 5.2."
