MSU Baseball Camps Set to Open June 26

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Preparations are moving ahead full speed and registration is under way for the 2005 Mississippi State Baseball Camps, set to begin later this month on the MSU campus.

The camp staff features Bulldog head coach Ron Polk, whose 1,275 wins ranks as the sixth most among NCAA Division I active coaches and the 10th-most among college coaches all-time. Polk's MSU staff includes assistant coaches Russ McNickle and Tommy Raffo, coordinator of camps Wade Hedges and administrative assistant Greg Drye. Members of the Mississippi State baseball team and other college and high school coaches also serve as instructors in the camp.

The Baseball Bulldogs won the 2005 Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament and last week competed in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional, the school's 22nd appearance in NCAA regional competition since 1978.

This year's camp features seven sessions, beginning June 26-29 with the Junior High Camp (ages 11 to 14). Three sessions of high school team camps follow as high school teams compete with other enrolled teams and take part in extensive instructional sessions with the MSU coaching staff.

The High School Camp and the High School Pitcher/Catcher Camp (ages 15 through high school seniors) are set July 11-15 and July 15-17. A highlight of the High School Camp is Showcase Day (July 14), affording each camper an opportunity showcase his baseball talent through a simulated professional tryout and evaluation.

This year's camp concludes with the popular Youth Day Camp (July 18-21), a four-day session for youth ages 6 through 12. This camp emphasizes the development of baseball fundamentals, batting mechanics and competition. It begins daily at 8:30 a.m., includes a mid-day lunch, and closes at 4 p.m.
