Coming out of high school McNeil received heavy interest from quite a few schools but academics derailed him for two years. He wound up signing with Lakawanna Junior College in Scranton, PA.
"Auburn, Alabama, Syracuse, Washington and LSU recruited me out of high school," said McNeil, who played his high school ball at Booker HS in Sarasota, FL. "Miami was looking at me and the coach recommended that I go (to Lakawanna JC). My coach asked me if I wanted to go there. That's why I wound up going there."
Although he mainly played on special teams this past season, several schools are showing significant interest in him once again.
"Washington, NC State, Middle Tennessee, Oregon State, Alabama and Mississippi State are recruiting me," said McNeil, a 6-2.5, 206-pound safety with 4.5 to 4.6 speed. "NC State is showing the most interest in me right now."
Has he narrowed his list down to a top 5?
"I just want to go somewhere where I can play ball right off the bat," said McNeil. "I don't really have a top 5."
Mississippi State didn't really show any interest in him out of high school. What caused them to become interested in him this time?
"They got in touch with my high school coach and he told them about me," said McNeil. "That's how they got interested in me."
Does he know much about Mississippi State?
"I watched them a little on tv last year and saw the formations and defenses that they run," said McNeil. "School-wise, I don't really know much about them because they weren't recruiting me and I wasn't looking at them."
