Corderick Govan is a linebacker that has seen his recruiting status continue to grow the past few months. With two early written offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss, Govan has since received three additional offers.
"I've added offers from Alabama, Southern Miss and the University of Memphis," said Govan, who received spring recruiting calls from MSU, Ole Miss and Memphis. "I received those not long after Ole Miss and State offered me."
Four of the offers are in writing, while he's waiting for the fifth offer to be sent in the mail.
"Alabama told me over the phone (that I had an offer), but the written offer hasn't come in, yet," said the first-team all-stater. "They called my coach and told him. He gave me a number to call and I called them. Southern Miss and the University of Memphis are written offers."
When asked what schools are at the top of his list, Govan's list wasn't surprising.
"I would say the ones that have offered are my top five," said Govan.
However, two are definitely ahead of the other three.
"Ole Miss and Mississippi Stare are my top one and two," said Govan. He also said both, "are pretty much the same. Ole Miss and Mississippi State both have good coaches and good facilities."
He is familiar with the Ole Miss coaches and facilities after attending an Ole Miss camp earlier this summer. Although he attended a Scout.com combine May 1st at Mississippi State, it was on a Sunday during the spring recruiting period, which meant that he wasn't able to meet with the coaches. He plans on attending a Mississippi State camp in July, which will allow him to get to know their coaches and see their facilities inside and out.
"I went to the Ole Miss Senior Camp," said Govan. "It is the only college camp that I have gone to. I didn't get a chance to make it to the Mississippi State (Senior) camp, but I plan on going to the Mississippi State 7 on 7 camp."
When asked what his criteria for choosing a school will be, he named two factors.
"I won't say I want to stay in-state, but I prefer to stay closer to home," said Govan. "The advantage that Ole Miss, State and Alabama have over the other two is that they are in the SEC and I feel that I want to play in the SEC."
Although it appears Ole Miss and Mississippi State are in the lead, Govan said this about the possibility of him committing anytime soon.
"My plans are that I am going to wait until I take all my official visits," said Govan.
He also knows that it will be a difficult decision no matter what school it may wind up being.
"I know it will be a difficult decision because all of them are big-time football schools," said Govan. "It will be hard, but it is a decision that will be good to make. Either decision that I make will be a good decision. Something good will come out of it."
