Diamond Dogs No. 19 in Final Poll

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State is ranked 19th in the final Sports Weekly/ESPN baseball coaches poll. The Diamond Dogs, who captured the 2005 SEC Baseball Tournament championship and concluded the year with a 42-22 record, garnered a pair of top 25 rankings and were included in three of the four season-ending national polls.

In addition to the No. 19 placement in the coaches poll, State was ranked 22nd by Baseball America and 33rd by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Seven teams from the Southeastern Conference, led by second-ranked Florida, were included in the final top 25 baseball coaches poll for 2005.

The Bulldogs, playing in their 28th NCAA postseason competition and their 21st NCAA regional tournament, advanced to the championship round of the 2005 NCAA Coral Gables Regional.

State finished the year with top five league ranking in all three major team statistical categories - tied for fifth with a .297 batting average, second with a 3.51 team earned run average, and tied for fourth with a .969 team fielding percentage.
