"Monte is a big kid from Provine HS (Jackson, MS.) The main thing about Monte is everybody knows he comes from good stock. His dad was a tremendous football player at Jackson State. His dad is also his coach. Even though he is a lot bigger now than the weight he will play at in college, the things you don't question about him are his work ethic and accountability. For sure, the first year he will be redshirted. He will be losing weight and working on his conditioning and strength his first year. It is all down the road for him."
Richard Burch is next.
"Richard is slated to play tackle for us. He is from Brandon High School. He is a big kid with great mobility who already has great strength. He has tremendous character and comes from a very good family. His accountability is very good. He came out of our camp last year and really caught our eye. He is a guy, if he can handle it, who has a chance to backup at his position his freshman year. I say that with tongue in cheek because freshmen very rarely have had the opportunity to play. However, due to his natural ability, he will have the opportunity. It will be up to him to take the bull by the horns and run with it. He will be a great football player for us down the road."
Talk about the third guy, tight end Blake Pettit.
"At tight end, we have a kid coming in from Olive Branch, Blake Pettit, that is not very well known, but, in my mind, has a tremendous upside. He is a guy who for most of his career thought that he was going to be a quarterback. In fact, he wore number 16 in high school. The chances of him playing any other position were remote for awhile, but he kept growing, getting taller and bigger, and ended up playing some tight end and defensive end for his high school his senior season. The thing that surprised me the most was the way he played defensive end. I think the guy is going to be a heck of a tight end prospect for us. His family is a great family. His accountability and character are great. He is 6-5.5 and 230 pounds. I can see him becoming like one of those great tight ends that we have had here in the past."
