MSU No. 7 in Final Basketball Recruiting Rankings

The Mississippi State men's basketball recruiting class wound up No. 7 in the final recruiting rankings by, as announced Tuesday morning.

Mississippi State moved down one notch, from 6th to 7th, due to the loss of prize recruit Monta Ellis, the 3rd ranked player among all players in's player rankings, to the NBA Draft.

Other players MSU signed include 3 of the top 49 players in the player rankings.

  • Shooting guard Jamont Gordon (6-3.5, 215) of Lutheran Christian by way of Oak Hill Academy - No. 32nd player overall and 11th ranked SG.
  • Center Vernon Goodridge (6-9, 200) of Lutheran Christian - No. 38th player overall and 4th rated center.
  • Shooting guard Reginald Delk (6-5, 190) of North Side HS in Jackson, Tennessee - No. 49th player overall and 14th ranked SG.

    Mississippi State also signed PG Richard Delk, also of North Side HS, Murrah HS guard Jeremy Wise and Bridgton Academy forward Bernard Rimmer.

    If you take into consideration what high school players will not be playing college ball next year due to remaining in the NBA draft, Gordon actually moves up to the 7th spot and Delk the 10th spot among shooting guards that will be attending college, while Goodridge moves up to the 2nd spot among all centers after the NBA Draft took the top 2 rated centers.

    Mississippi State's 2005/2006 roster, with the addition of the 6-man signing class, will consist of 6 true freshmen, 1 redshirt freshman, 1 sophomore, 3 juniors and 2 seniors.
