MSU OL Signee Chris Spencer

Mississippi State freshman offensive line signee Chris Spencer talked about the summer conditioning and his personal hopes for the upcoming fall football season.

Chris Spencer Profile

What is your height, weight and position?
"6-4, 308, left tackle."

Why left tackle?
"There is such a need for left tackles because they only have two, James Redmond and Roland Terry. In the perfect world, I would play left guard but there is more of a need for me at left tackle. Part of my job is to push James Redmond to help him get better."

What did you try to accomplish during the first part of the summer?
"Honestly, I didn't do what I should have. It's so hard to motivate yourself. You try to, but you find yourself slipping. That's what happened to me."

Where, specifically, did you slip?
"With my conditioning. At one time, I was 287. Now I'm 308. That's a lot of weight to gain in the summertime. And it's a lot of weight to lose, too."

Weight-wise, what do you want to get down to?
"I want to get back down to 290, 285."

What do you want to try and improve during the second summer session of workouts?
"I want to revolutionize the offensive line. I want to be the total athlete."

Coach Croom has stated often that the freshmen offensive lineman will play this football season. What are your hopes for the upcoming season?
"I feel I have a shot to play. You just have to put your chinstrap on, buckle up and play as hard as you can play."
