Seven Bulldogs Earn Pre-Season All-SEC Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. -­ Seven Mississippi State football players were voted to the pre-season Coaches All-SEC Team, the league office announced Wednesday.

Senior halfback Jerious Norwood (Brandon, Miss.) earned first-team all-league recognition from the conference head coaches. The 6-0, 202-pounder rushed 195 times for 1,050 yards, a 5.4-yard per carry average, and seven touchdowns in 2004. He is the league's leading returning rusher and ranked 28th nationally a year ago.

Senior defensive end Willie Evans (Waynesboro, Miss.) was voted second-team all-SEC on the defensive line. The 6-2, 259-pounder was second on the '04 MSU team in total tackles and led the club in both tackles for loss and quarterback sacks. His 67 tackles led all SEC linemen a year ago, and he ranked fourth in the league in tackles for loss (14.5) and tied for 10th in sacks (5.5).

A total of five Bulldogs were accorded third-team, all-SEC honors from the coaches. Sophomore tight end Eric Butler (Moss Point, Miss.), junior offensive lineman Brian Anderson (Butler, Ala.), and senior center Chris McNeil (Petal, Miss.) also represented the State offense. Junior linebacker Quinton Culberson (Jackson, Miss.) and senior defensive back Kevin Dockery (Hernando, Miss.) were selected from the MState defense.
