LEXINGTON, Ky. - The opening of the three-game SEC weekend baseball series between Mississippi State and Kentucky and the opening of the Wildcats' recently renovated baseball stadium has been postponed due to cold weather. It has been rescheduled as a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).
High temperatures in the Lexington area were expected to climb to the mid-30s by the scheduled 2 p.m. (CT) first pitch Friday. But accompanying stiff winds were also forecast, dropping the wind chill factor into the low 20s. Temperatures are expected to moderate quickly into the 50s for Saturday's twinbill.
Both the Bulldogs (10-6-1, 1-2 SEC) and the Wildcats (10-10, 1-2 SEC) had their only scheduled midweek games rained out earlier in the week.
Sophomore lefty Paul Maholm (3-1, 3.04) and senior right-hander Tanner Brock (3-1, 3.60) will draw starts in Saturday's doubleheader.
