Hal "Cubby" Easterwood, a four-sport star at Eupora High School and charter member of the Mississippi State Athletic Hall of Fame, was a two-way starter for the Bulldogs (center and linebacker) from 1952-54 after a stint in the military. The Bulldogs were a combined 16-10-3 during his career.

Baby steps. When Sylvester Croom and his staff took over the MSU program last year there was a major rebuilding job to be done to get back to the level the team was at in the late 1990s. There weren't any illusions about winning the SEC title right away, so the task was to get the players in place to prepare for years down the road. That doesn't mean 2005 will be a throwaway season, but patience must be stressed as the painfully young team navigates its way through the brutal SEC world.]
