Men's track team take 2nd at Alabama relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ­ Mississippi State's men's track team took second place honors in the team competition while the women placed fifth on the final day of the Alabama Relays.

The men scored 34 points to finish behind the host Alabama. The Lady Bulldogs took fifth with 17 points, with Pitt taking the women's title with 52 points.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Glenn McFadden, Marquis Davis, Dion Crabbe, and Pierre Browne improved their qualifying time for the NCAAs with a Sam Bailey Track record 39.29 Sunday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. That time also ranks the team third on MSU's all-time 4x100m relay list.

Those men also had an impressive run in the 4x200m relay, taking first with a time of 1:22.89. Other top finishers include Matt Denton's fifth place showing in the high jump (6-8 ¾) and J.D. Erickson's eighth-place finish in the shot put (50-9 ¼).

The women had their best showing in distance relays, coming in second in the distance medley race (12:02.81) and third in the 4x1500-meter relay (19:16.78).

Mississippi State hosts its next action on Saturday, March 30, 2002, in the Bulldog Invitational at the W.O. Spencer Stadium/Carl Maddox Track.
