With quite a few young righthanded pitchers coming back this year, Mississippi State's need for righthanded pitchers isn't as big as in years past. Because of that, it appears the Mississippi State's coaching staff has narrowed their list down to one or two outstanding righthanders.
Is Garrett Harris one of those youngsters? It appears so.
"(Mississippi State assistant) Coach (Russ) McNickle said they are going to bring me in for an official visit probably on Homecoming weekend and would probably make an offer on the visit," said Harris, whose fastball is normally in the high 80's and has topped out at 93 miles per hour. "He said they are going to sign three lefthanded pitchers, but they are very interested in me because I'm a righthander. He said he looks forward to coaching me and having me in the program."
As for what schools are in his recruiting picture, there are three with a fourth on the fringe.
"Right now, I guess (Mississippi) State would be at the top of my list as to where I would go," said Harris. "But Delta State and West Alabama both called last week and Delta State said I was one of their top prospects. Delta State wants me to come for an official visit, so I'm supposed to go there sometime in October. West Alabama is supposed to call me back sometime this week and try to set up a visit. And I've also stayed in contact with (Ole Miss assistant) Coach (Dan) McDonnell."
