MSU Commits Lead Teams to 7-1 Record

Seven of Mississippi State football commitments have helped lead their teams to a combined 7-1 record.

  • Offensive lineman Mark Melichar has helped his team to a 3-0 record. Oak Mountain (AL) HS has defeated Fairfield 27-4, Spain Park 15-7 and Vestavia Hills 17-2. Mark has recorded between 15 and 20 pancake blocks and graded out at 77 and 79% in the first two games. He will get his grade for the third game Monday. Although he is a solid MSU commitment, he still received recruiting calls from Vanderbilt, Memphis and UAB.

  • According to Pensacola (FL) HS head coach Mike Bennett, running back Courtney Jones has recorded 452 yards and 4 touchdowns on 38 carries in his team's first two games. He also has 23 receiving yards. His team is currently 1-1 on the year after losing to Daphne 0-32 and defeating Tate 45-14. His teammate, LaBrandon Glover, has recorded 29 totals in the first two games.

  • Kenny Ashley, a running back from Venice (CA) HS, played his first game of the season last Friday night and recorded 265 yards and 3 touchdowns on 17 carries. He also had 2 receptions for 40 yards and 3 tackles. His team won 35-14 over Carson HS.

  • DE Brandon Cooper, OL Chris Herrera and CB Marcus Washington have led Marshall HS (Missouri City, TX) to a 2-0 record. They defeated Cypress Ridge 31-21 the first weekend of the season and Dulles HS 42-37 Friday night. Cooper has recorded 14 tackles and 3 quarterback hurries. Washington has 8 tackles and 2 pass deflections. Herrera, in the first game had 8 pancake blocks. Due to not being able to get in touch with him Sunday, I don't have any stats for his second game.

  • I haven't been able to get in touch with Biggersville's Alex Carpenter to find out his stats.
