"I am about 275 to 276 now. I have run a 4.75 but I usually run a 4.8 or 4.9."
You play on the defensive line. Do you also play on offense?
"No sir. I just play defensive end. I have always played defense except when I was younger when I was in the 7th grade."
What are your strengths as a defensive end?
"I get off the line fast. I can usually out-quick and out-strength the offensive linemen that I go against. I guess you could say my strength is that I have a good combination of quickness, size and strength."
Are there areas of your game that you feel you still need to work on?
"I want my footwork to get better. It is pretty good for my size but I'm sure I can get a lot better. You can't really be satisfied. By the time I get to college, I want to be down to a 4.7."
Do you know what your personal stats were last season?
"I had 85 tackles. I believe I had 62 solos and I also had 14 sacks." [The 14 sacks were the most in Class 4A.-Gene]
What are your personal goals for next season?
"I want to get over 25 sacks and over 100 tackles."
What are your team goals?
"I want to win the state (championship). Last year, we got to the South State. It is a big goal of mine and Jason (Hockaday's) to win a state championship. That is all we talk about."
Do you return most of your players from last year?
"We lost our starting running back, Torey Staten, three offensive linemen, one receiver, a defensive back, one defensive end and one outside linebacker. We have a wingback that is a phenomenal athlete. He will be a 11th grader next year. He is fast, quick; he is really good. His name is Clarence Cotton. He squats over 500 pounds in the weight room. I believe he is 5-10, 185 pounds."
I have you earning MAC 4A First Team, All-State last season. What other honors did you earn last season.
"I also made All-Coast. I have also been selected as a Pre-Season All-America for this coming season."
That's a very high honor. Who selected you for that?
"Tom Lemming. He interviewed me Saturday (March 30)." [Tom Lemming is a nationally known recruiting analyst who travels throughout the nation during the spring interviewing the top players in the country.-Gene]
Did Tom say how high he has you ranked?
"He said I am one of his top 100 (players) in the nation. He said he takes his top 100 and picks out his top 25 from that. He said I have a good chance of making (his top 25). He just wants to watch more film of me."
You have really received a lot of attention from recruiting folks. Has it been different than you expected it to be?
"Yeah, I have had offers from, I think, every school that I have ever dreamed of going to."
Have you attended any football camps?
"I have attended one, USM. That's the only one I really got to attend because I was working all summer. This year, I don't even know if I will be able to go to any this summer."
Did you attend any college football games last season?
"I went to one USM game."
Do you plan on attending any this coming season?
"Yeah, I think I want to go see MSU play Tennessee."
Have you attended any Junior Days this spring?
"Yes sir, I went to LSU's Junior Day."
Did your parents attend a college?
"My dad and mom didn't but my step-dad attended USM and my brother is attending USM right now."
Have you grown up a fan of any college?
"I have always like the SEC schools. I have always liked State, of course, and Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee and Florida. I really haven't had a team. I just liked the schools that are close to Mississippi, just like everybody likes the Saints here."
You mentioned earlier that you have received scholarship offers? What teams have offered?
"Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss. Jackie Sherrill sent me a letter last week and offered me in it. I have also been offered by USM. Tennessee called my coach and sort of hinted that they would be offering one. They said they loved me on film."
What schools are you most interested in at this time?
"I'm really like confused right now to tell you the truth. I really like Tennessee. I like State, I have liked State since I was little. I am very interested in LSU a whole lot and Tennessee, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. They are all up there. LSU has some awesome facilities. That is probably what gets a lot of people. It is only an hour and forty-five minutes away from my house and that is another plus. I don't really travel anywhere. That might not be the final factor, though. No one has really recruited me as hard as they have the last couple of months."
Well, that about does it, Sean. Tell your girlfriend I apologize for taking so much of your time while you are visiting her. [Sean was visiting his girlfriend when I called him.-Gene]
"(Laugh) Oh, she doesn't care."
