OL Maurice Hurt Likes Five

Big-time offensive line recruits are the lifeblood of a program. And one of those, Baldwin High School's Maurice Hurt, has Mississippi State among his top five schools.

Even before he became known as one of the south's top recruits, Maurice had Mississippi State among his favorite schools. In fact, he named them as one of his favorites as early as February in an interview with Scout.com's Ryan Jordan. And, in my recent interview with him, when I asked him what schools he will officially visit, he named State as one of those five lucky schools.

"Mississippi State, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn are the schools that I will visit," answered the 6-4, 340-pounder. "I'm supposed to go to Florida this coming weekend. That's the only one I've set up, so far."

In case you are wondering, he's taking his visits during the season because he plans on graduating early and sign with a college in December.

Mississippi State, obviously, is on a very formidable list, but, based on what Maurice told me, they have as good a chance as any of the other four of signing him.

"Everybody is the same," said Maurice, who has received recruiting calls from all five schools as well as South Carolina and Florida State.

Not only has MSU called him, but he's received a call from the head man himself, MSU head coach Sylvester Croom.

"Their coaches could start calling once a week and (MSU assistant) Coach (Guy) Holliday called," said Maurice. "And I talked to Coach Croom, and he talked to my mom."

When asked what he likes about Mississippi State, Maurice talked about two former teammates who are very close friends of his, the Kyles brothers.

"I like State a lot, especially with Nick and Jarvis (Kyles) both down there," said Maurice, who is referring to MSU freshman Jarvis Kyles and MSU commitment Nick Kyles. "That will play a big role in my decision. When I go through something, they will have already been through it and will know what to tell me and what advice to give me."

Will that advantage put MSU over the top? Obviously, it's too early to know, but we'll do our best to keep you as up-to-date as possible.
