Domonic Hopson Talks Recruiting

Domonic Hopson, one of the top linebackers in the state of Mississippi, still has six schools on his recruiting list.

When asked about the schools that have offered, Domonic said, "I still have the same offers (Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Rice, Vanderbilt, Louisiana-Lafayette) as I did the last time I talked to you."

And all six are still showing heavy interest in him.

"I talked to (MSU head) Coach Croom, Coach Ken Carter of Vanderbilt, Coach Luke of Ole Miss, Coach Rodrigue of Southern Miss, Coach Farrell from Rice and Coach Quinn from Louisiana-Lafayette," said the 6-3, 230-pounder. And one other school may have jumped back into the picture. "I think Clemson called me tonight. I tried to call them back, but he didn't answer."

Does he have a top 5?

"No, not yet," said Domonic. "I've been trying to think about it, but things have been so crazy it's been hard to focus on college. I'm going to try and narrow it down pretty soon and get an idea which ones I can realistically go to."

Due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina, Domonic hasn't been able to attend any college football games. But he has plans to.

"With the Hurricane, it's been really crazy," he said. "When everything gets back together, I plan on going. I know Southern (Miss) will be easy to get to. Another one of my teammates, Andy Nations, likes Ole Miss so I might ride up there with him and see Ole Miss play. I can get to Lafayette easily. My brother is at Rice, so I know I'm going up there. I'm also going to try to get up to Mississippi State. My uncle lives in Starkville. Vanderbilt will probably be the hardest to get to."

He also hasn't set up any official visits.

"I haven't set up any official visits," said Domonic. "I really haven't thought about who I am going to officially visit because things have been so crazy."

He explained what criteria he is going to use when choosing schools to officially visit.

"Education is always important," said the A and B student. "I also want to be in a football atmosphere where they live and breath football. When I went to Ole Miss to their camp this summer, I liked the way it was up there. The whole time it was about Ole Miss. I really liked that, so, hopefully, State and Southern will be the same. We'll see."

One of the schools that he is interested in is Mississippi State. What are his thoughts about State?

"I like State," he said. "I've talked to Coach Croom three times. I get really excited when Coach Croom calls me. I just really admire Coach Croom. I love talking to him when he calls. He's just a good person. I like (MSU assistant) Coach Kitchens up there, too. He calls me every now and then. Eric Butler, who is from Moss Point, plays tight end up there. That is good knowing somebody that goes there."

When asked if he expects to officially visit them, he quickly said, "yes sir."
