The young men at SAE didn't do what they did because they wanted to make the newspapers. They just wanted to give a little back to their community.
The MSU chapter of the SAE fraternity, according to their Community Relations Officer Scott Ainsworth, a senior at Mississippi State, has been breaking bread and spending quality time with the Palmer Home children since he was a freshman. According to Scott, "we go to the Palmer Home every semester and eat dinner and play with them. This year, we decided we wanted to bring them to our house for dinner and a Mississippi State baseball game. I enjoy doing these kind of things because it is for a good cause."
This is not the only good deed the SAE fraternity sponsors. According to SAE President Clayton Davis, a sophomore at MSU, "we also participate in Habitat for Humanity. It is the final thing that the fall pledges do as part of their initiation. We go to places besides Starkville. We have gone to Indianola (Miss.), Rosedale (Miss.) and Memphis. This past fall we went to Memphis and did some work for the Catholic charities there. We usually do it the first week before we start back in January. It is usually all the pledge class and 10 or 15 actives."
As Scott Ainsworth told me, "you have heard about 'Hell Week'. We stopped all that and started this."
Hell Week? Nope, just call it Help Week from now on.
Kudos to the Mississippi State SAE fraternity for helping others that may not be as fortunate as they are.
