Jim Hill HS WR/FS Jason Husband

[Premium article] Gene's Page interviewed Jason Husband, a wide receiver/free safety who plays for Jim Hill High School (Jackson, MS.). Jason was selected by The Clarion-Ledger as one of the top 50 Juniors in the state of Mississippi. He was visited by nationally known recruiting analyst Tom Lemming on Lemming's spring tour of the top players in the nation.

What is your height, weight and forty-speed, Jason?
"I am 6-4, 200 pounds and run a 4.6 forty."

What position do you play?
"I play receiver and free safety."

Do you start on offense and defense?
"I start on both sides."

What do you feel are your strengths as a football player? What do you think you are best at?
"I am very physical and can break tackles. I also run very good routes. I feel I have pretty good hands. I don't like to lose."

What about on the defensive side? What are your strengths on that side of the ball?
"I am a good tackler. I can cover the ball and read the quarterback."

What things do you need to improve on as a player?
"Mainly my speed."

What were your stats last season?
"I caught 35 passes for 572 yards and 6 touchdowns. On defense, I made four interceptions, 3 caused fumbles, 2 recovered fumbles and 31 tackles."

What are your personal goals for next season?
"I would like to get my gpa higher."

What are your team goals for next season?
"To try and get my team deep into the playoffs. And to also be a leader."

How did your team do last season?
"We went to the second round of the playoffs. We were 7 and 5."

Did you lose many players off your team?
"We lost 4 seniors, 3 who were starters."

What honors did you earn last season?
"I made (The Clarion-Ledger's) second-team All-Metro and All-District."

Do you know of any pre-season honors that you might earn such as making any of the pre-season recruiting publications?
"Tom Lemming (of Prep Football Report) came to Jackson and interviewed me. I'm also on Rivals100."

What did Lemming say about you?
"He said he visits like 200 kids throughout the nation."

Did you attend any college football camps last season?
"Yes sir, I attended Ole Miss'."

Do you plan on attending any camps this spring and summer?
"I am going to attend the Nike Camp (in Tuscaloosa) [Jason's track team made the playoffs. Due to that, he was not able to attend the Nike Camp.-Gene]. I will probably also attend the Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Auburn camps. I also will probably attend a local speed camp here in Jackson. It will help me increase my speed."

Did you attend any college games last season?
"Yes sir, Southern Miss."

Have you attended any college Junior Days this spring?
"Yes sir, Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

What were your impressions of the two schools?
"Both of the coaching staffs were nice."

Did your parents attend a college?
"My mother attended Hinds Community College."

Do you have any brothers and sisters who have or are attending college?
"My brother is a freshman at Ole Miss. I also had another brother who played for Ole Miss for a little while. I also had a sister who attended Southern Miss."

Have you grown up a fan of any particular college?
"Not really."

What schools are sending you letters?
"LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Jackson State, Alabama State, the University of Memphis, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, Marshall, Michigan, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Northwestern and the University of Illinois."

Do you have four or five schools you are most interested in at this time?
"Mississippi State. They have given me a scholarship offer."

You've already gotten an offer this early?
"Yes sir."

When did you receive the offer?
"March 26th."

Who are some other schools you are interested in?
"Ole Miss, LSU, Southern Miss, Alabama and the University of Georgia."

"Yes sir."
