One of the top wide receivers in the nation, Richard Sherman (17 receptions, 601 yards, 9 TDs) continues to have five colleges at the top of his list, with two of those leading the pack.
"My top five are Stanford, Mississippi State, Colorado, UCLA and UNLV," said Richard, who has offers from all five as well as Nebraska. "Stanford and MSU are at the top of my list."
What is it about Stanford and Mississippi State?
"I liked the academics that I have seen at Stanford," said the 3.9 gpa student. "And I've seen the school and talked to their coaches a lot."
"I've talked to (associate head track) Coach (Steve) Dudley at MSU," said Richard, one of the top 5 triple jumpers in the high school ranks. "He's brought them up a lot. I also talked to (MSU head football) Coach (Sylvester) Croom about two weeks ago. He sounded like he is a great guy who really cares about his players. He got straight to the point and told me that he really liked my speed and said that I looked really fast on tape. And he said that they are looking for receivers."
And Richard, who had a chance to watch MSU's game against Alabama this past weekend on CBS, saw why Coach Croom told him he is looking for receivers, more specially, big, fast wide receivers in the Richard Sherman mold.
"I did see that they need a passing game because they use their running back a little too much in both their running and passing game," said the 10.92 sprinter. "All (Alabama) had to do was key on him and things stopped."
Richard plans on taking an official visit to MSU in late November to learn more about them.
"I should be going to Mississippi State on the 25th (of November)," he said. "We are still trying to get the details lined up. They want to put me on a red eye (flight) after my game."
He's also scheduled one other trip and is looking at officially visiting several other schools.
"I'm supposed to be taking one to Stanford in early December," said Richard. "I'm not sure of the exact date. I'm also trying to take one this weekend, but I'm not sure if I can take it. We play on Thursday, so it would be the perfect time. But everybody I've talked to seems to have an away game this weekend. The others I'm trying to set up visits with are Colorado, Oregon and Washington."
We'll call Richard after his official visit to State to find out his impressions. And also to see if he's set up any other visits.
