I know you attended the Nike Camp at Tuscaloosa. Tell me about your experience there?
"First we tested on the bench press. I believe I did something like 12 or 13 reps (lifting 185 pounds.). I just got through with baseball and I really was (away from the weights) for the last two months. This is the time when I really hit (the weights) real hard."
You mentioned that you play baseball. What position do you play?
"I play first base."
How did you do, offensively, this season?
"I hit 4 home runs and had a lot of RBIs. I'm not sure what my batting average was."
How good of a player are you?
"I am good. When I was 12, we made it to the World Series in Orlando, Florida."
When did you first start playing baseball?
"When I was six."
You are pretty big to be playing baseball. Does that hinder you?
"No, it is just natural for me. I can run just about as fast as someone 150 pounds."
Getting back to football, what position do you play in that sport?
Do you also play on the defensive side of the ball?
"I used to but ever since my 10th grade year, I have played center."
When did you first start playing center?
"Last year, my junior season. My 10th grade year I was kind of a multi-purpose player. I played tackle, guard, even tight end. Wherever they needed me, I played."
Do you think you have the center position down pretty solid now?
"Yeah, but I'm still working on it because there is a lot of technical stuff to learn."
What do you feel are your strengths on the football field?
"I believe I have good feet for someone my size. I love to play smashmouth football. That is what we like to do. We don't step down to anyone. I am aggressive. You've got to be to play the offensive line."
You've got a few of the other top players in the state on your team. One of them is defensive lineman Johnny Daniels. Does it help make you better to be able to go against him in practice?
"Of course. Not to be bragging for him, but when he says he can cream you, he is going to cream you. He is not joking. When he gets out there he may talk, but he is nothing but serious. Going against him and the other defensive linemen we have definitely makes me better."
What do you feel you need to improve on as a player?
"I want to improve my strength."
Did you coach keep any kind of stats for the offensive linemen?
"He kept grades. I graded mostly 90 to 95%."
What personal goals do you want to achieve next season?
"I want to improve my grades and my ACT." [Paul is already an excellent student but he just wants to do even better.-Gene]
What is your team goal?
"Go and win the state championship."
What honors have you earned in high school?
"I made the (Clarion-Ledger's) top 50 juniors list. I also made second-team All-County."
Did you attend any college football camps last summer?
I know you attended the Nike Camp in Tuscaloosa a week ago. Do you plan on attending any camps this summer?

Do you have any brothers or sisters that have or are currently attending college?
"Sure do, I have an older brother (Drew Gorney) who is attending Mississippi State. He is a sophomore. I believe he is majoring in engineering."
What schools are sending you letters?
"Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Marshall, the University of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, and a couple of Florida. There is also one in Louisiana, not sure what their name is."
Have you grown up a fan of any particular school?
"I'm not really a fan of any school. I just pay attention to the offensive line. I like State and Auburn. My best friend's father is an alumnus from State. I like to watch Mississippi State and the University of Illinois on tv."
Being from Mississippi, how did you wind developing an interest in Illinois?
"There is where a lot of my family lives and both of my cousins attended that school."
Have you lived in Illinois for part of your life?
"I have lived in Mississippi all my life."
What do you do, go up and visit them ever so often?
"Yes sir, I go up there every summer and spend about a week and a half."
I know it is very early in the recruiting process and school favorites sometimes change. With that in mind, what schools are you most interested in at this time?
"Probably Auburn, right now."
