MSU Defeats Charlotte, 53-38

Behind a suffocating 2-3 zone, the Mississippi State Bulldog basketball team, on the road for the first time this season, defeated Charlotte Wednesday night in front of 6,362 fans.

Charlotte, now 1-3 on the season, had won 10 straight home games prior to the loss to MSU. With the win, Mississippi State (3-0) has now won 15 straight non-conference road games.

A preseason top 25 pick by most publications, Charlotte was held to a school-record low in points in a game and field-goal percentage in a game at 21.7 percent.

Curtis Withers, named to the Wooden Watch as one of the candidates for that National Player of the Year Award, led Charlotte with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Dietric Slater led the Bulldogs with 13 points followed by Piotr Stelmach and Jamont Gordon with 10 points each. Gordon also contributed 7 rebounds at his guard spot, while Stelmach led the Bulldogs with 9 rebounds. As a team, the Bulldogs out-rebounded the taller and bigger 49ers 44-41.

The Bulldogs travel back home to play Northwestern State 7 p.m. Saturday night.
