The lone SEC rookie to enter the week ranked among the league's top-four freshmen statistical leaders in scoring (13.4 ppg; 2nd), rebounding (6.1 rpg; 4th) and assists (2.4 apg; 4th) for the season, Gordon capped last week's action by recording season highs in points (20), rebounds (9), assists (5) and blocks (2) in helping lead State to an 82-69 overtime home win over Santa Clara this past Saturday. His 20 points, including 4-of-5 accuracy from three-point range, against the Broncos were the most points scored by an MSU freshman since current Dallas Mavericks center Erick Dampier tallied 22 points at Auburn on Jan. 12, 1994.
Second on the State squad in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals (1.0 spg), Gordon also totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in last Wednesday's 67-59 home triumph over New Orleans. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound forward/guard opened the week with a 13-point, six-rebound effort versus Southeastern Louisiana last Monday. Gordon has now reached double figures in scoring during each of his last six outings on the year.
After a break for final exams, the 5-2 Bulldogs will conclude their current five-game homestand by playing host to Troy University this Saturday evening at MSU's Humphrey Coliseum. State will then take on the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State University at Jackson's Mississippi Coliseum on Thursday, Dec. 15. Tickets for the upcoming game in Jackson are available at the Mississippi Coliseum Box Office and at all Ticketmaster locations.
