Chris received a visit from Mississippi State a little over a week ago.
"(Mississippi State head) Coach (Sylvester) Croom and Coach (Brick) Haley came in last Tuesday," said Chris. "They stayed for 2 to 3 hours."
This was the first time that his parents had met Coach Croom and Coach Haley. What kind of impression did they form after meeting them?
"My parents were very impressed," said Chris. "They liked the way the coaches presented themselves. To tell you the truth, they felt that Mississippi was different than the way the coaches actually represented Mississippi State. Basically, they thought it was country. Just like people think Texas is country, they thought that Mississippi State was country."
Although he is committed to Mississippi State, Chris is still receiving recruiting calls from several schools.
"Iowa State, SMU and Texas A&M call me on a weekly basis," he said.
Where do those three schools fit into his recruiting picture?
"We are visiting Iowa State this weekend," said Chris, who made 1st Team All-District (20-5A) and was nominated for the All-Regional and the All-American teams after grading out at over 90% for the season and averaging 7 to 8 pancakes per game. "SMU also wanted us to visit, but I can't remember the date. I might visit them. Texas A&M has talked to me, but I don't really know what I'm going to do about them. I don't really think Texas A&M is in the picture."
Does he still consider himself a verbal commitment to MSU?
"I'm still committed to Mississippi State," he said. "I still consider myself a strong verbal, but I'm weighing my options between Mississippi State and Iowa State. SMU is a factor, but not much of a factor. I really have two top schools."
What does he like about Iowa State?
"As of right now, I'm going by what they tell me," said Chris, who has offers from at least six schools; MSU, Iowa State, Houston, Central Florida, Baylor and Missouri. "I like their head coach. And I also like that they have a mentor program. You can be with an actual professor who is your mentor. Basically, he's tutoring you. They also have something where you sit with the campus police for two hours one week. You ride around with them and get to know them."
Look for an additional update in about a week.
