When Mississippi State head man Sylvester Croom and his coaching staff headed out onto the recruiting trail, finding wide receivers who could make an immediate impact next season was No. 1 on their list. So far, you would have to give them an A+ on their success in finding what they need.

First, they received a verbal commitment from Mississippi Delta Community College wide receiver Ryan Mason (6-4, 215), a first-team Mississippi community college All-State selection. Today, they received more great news with the Tony Burks (6-4, 215) commitment. Tony, also a first-team All-State selection, played at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Tony explained why he chose Mississippi State over the likes of Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss.

"My mom and I feel real good about the coaches," he noted. "(Assistant) Coach (Guy) Holliday has been recruiting me hard. And I feel real good with them."

Now that it's over with, he can reflect on recruiting and all the calls that come with it. Was it still enjoyable at the end or is he just glad it's now over?

"I somewhat enjoyed it, but sometimes it got frustrating with all the calls and hassles," said Tony, who plans on signing with MSU this coming Wednesday. "I would say during the finals is when it was so demanding on my time because I had to study. I really didn't have time to deal with all of this (recruiting)."

Coming out of high school, Tony, who played high school ball at Harrison Central (MS) High School, was a U.S. Army All-American Bowl game participant, one of just 78 players selected to the very prestigious game.
