Herrera and two of his teammates, defensive end Brandon Cooper and cornerback Marcus Washington, committed to Mississippi State in early June. Since then, Herrera, who has scholarship offers from MSU, Iowa State, Houston, Central Florida, Baylor and Missouri, has officially visited Mississippi State and Iowa State. He plans no other official visits despite receiving weekly calls from SMU and Texas A&M.
In a December 21st interview with Scout.com Iowa State site staff writer Chris Williams, Herrera said, "right now they (MSU and Iowa State) are deadlocked because they almost have the same things. They have beautiful facilities. The football fields are nice. For me they have the same things. That's why it's so hard for me to decide between the two."
While they are deadlocked, he also told Chris Williams that, "I'm still at Mississippi State but very much considering Iowa State. My parents and I are going to sit down and talk about it."
I contacted Herrera today to see if he and his family have made their decision.
"We don't know yet," he said. "We are trying to enjoy the holidays now. My family and I will sit down and talk about it. Right now, we are leaning more toward Mississippi State, but we are considering Iowa (State)."
Normally, in a case like that Scout.com will list the recruit as a soft verbal. When I asked Herrera if he wanted me to list him as a soft verbal, he said, "I wouldn't really say that because we are still committed to Mississippi State. I wouldn't say it's a soft verbal."
