Here is what his head coach said about him: "A junior we have that is very good is Devrick Hampton," said Greenville Weston HS head football coach Phil Short. "Devrick (whose number is 90) will play defensive tackle for us. He is a very, very good player. He is very strong, benching 365 and squatting 515."

What is your height, weight and forty speed?
"My height, with my shoes off, was 6-2. I ran a 4.9 forty. My weight is 270." [The information that Devrick provided me came from the Nike Camp in Tuscaloosa this past April.-Gene]

What position did you play last season?
"Defensive end."

What do you consider your strengths as a football player?
"Technique and a fast learner. You tell me what I have to do and I will go do it."

What are some things you feel you need to improve on?
"I want to improve my speed. I want to get down to a 4.7 or a 4.8."

Do you know what your personal stats were last season?
"I had 14 sacks."

Do you have any personal goals you want to achieve next year?
"I just want to get into college. I also want to be the best defensive lineman so I can get my friend to shut up. (laugh)" [He was talking about his friend and teammate Quenton Groves.-Gene]

What is your team goal for next season?
"I really want to win the state championship next season."

What kind of honors have you earned during your high school career?
"Heart of a Champion. It is a team honor. It means I came to play and never gave up."

What football camps did you attend last season?
"Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

Do you plan on attending any camps this summer?
"May 11th, we go to a combine camp at LSU, and also Ole Miss, Mississippi State and we are supposed to be going to Florida also."

Did you attend any college football games last fall?
"No."

Did you attend any spring football games?
"No."

Have you grown up a fan of any particular college?
"Really, it is LSU."

What schools are mailing you letters?
"South Carolina, Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State.....Marshall, Southern Miss, Memphis, Vanderbilt, Boston College and I think the last one I got was Rice. There are quite a few others."

What schools are you interested in at this time?
"Number one would have to be LSU. Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, then Rice."
