Lady Bulldogs Face Ole Miss on FSN South

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (5-9, 0-1 SEC) are looking for their first conference win, traveling to Oxford to play archrival Ole Miss on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. CT on Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Net Southwest and Sun Sports. State fell to Arkansas on Thursday, 66-45, in its SEC home opener while Ole Miss fell to 17th-ranked Georgia in its opener, 84-70.

Mississippi leads the overall series with MSU, 56-12, and is 27-4 in Oxford. The two teams split the series last season with the Rebels winning in Oxford, 72-64, on Jan. 27, 2005 and the Lady Bulldogs victorious in Starkville on Feb. 17, 2005 (61-52). The meeting last season in Oxford was also on Fox Sports Net South. MSU has won 11 of the last 17 meetings.

Freshman guard Marneshia Richard shined in the loss to Arkansas on Thursday. The Lamar, Miss. native tallied 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in her first conference game. She was followed by senior guard/forward Blessing Chekwa's 10 points garnered despite the fact she got stitches in her left thumb due to a collision in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs posted a higher field goal and free throw percentage than Arkansas but their 25 turnovers and 16 rebounding difference than the Lady Backs made it difficult to get back in the game.

The Lady Rebels (10-4, 0-1) lost their first home game on Thursday to Georgia, 84-70. Ole Miss went 10-3 in non-conference play and 6-0 at home. They are led by all-SEC player Armintie Price who is averaging 17.9 ppg and 10.7 rpg. Two other Lady Rebels are tallying double digits: Ashley Johnson with 11.8 ppg and Ashley Awkward with 10.2 ppg. UM went 19-11 last season and advanced to the NCAA First Round.

The two teams share three non-conference opponents this season in UAB, Louisiana Tech, Maine. While both teams defeated Maine and lost to Louisiana Tech, the Lady Rebels defeated UAB, 71-52, while the Lady Bulldogs fell to the Blazers, 73-59.

MSU will continue its road trek on Thursday, Jan. 12 when it faces Vanderbilt in Nashville at 7 p.m.
