Mississippi State commitment James Lewis, the 2003 Player of the Year in Los Angeles, started his 2006 year by receiving great news.
"I found out online (Monday) that I had qualified," said James, now 6-1+ and 220 pounds.
What was the first thing he did when he read the good news?
"I called (MSU assistant) Coach (Guy) Holliday when I found out," said James. "They told me it will be sent to the (NCAA) Clearninghouse by Friday."
If all goes well, he will be at MSU within a few weeks as a fulltime student.
"I'm supposed to play in the spring game and practice in the spring, so I'll start school on the 17th," he said.
Does he have an idea if he will be playing wide receiver or some other position during the spring practices?
"I really don't know if I will play receiver, running back or something else," said James. " At this point, I'm just glad that I'm playing football again. It's been two and a half years since I last played."
It's been a long wait, but if all goes well at the NCAA Clearinghouse, he won't have to wait much longer.
