Eric is considered one of the top players in the South. He is a member of the BorderWars.com 101 team, one of only five cornerbacks to make the team.

What does his coach say about him: "He will be a four-year starter for us," said West Morgan HS head football coach Pierre Coggins. "He is outstanding as a cornerback. The Good Lord has been good to him in that regard. He is one of the top two (cornerbacks) that I have coached. He is an outstanding fullback. He gained almost 1,400 yards rushing. He is a fulltime player. He plays both ways the entire game. College coaches like his speed and how physical he is. He has great instincts. Alabama has already offered him. They like him a lot. I'm pretty sure Mississippi State and Ole Miss are going to offer him."

Here is my interview with Eric.

I've got you listed at 6-0, 175, with a 4.4 forty. Is that correct?
"Yes sir."

What is your maximum bench and squat?
"My bench is 265 and my squat is 385."

What do you feel you are best at on the football field?
"As a running back, I run through the tackles real well. I'm not that big for a fullback but I've learned to use my speed and quickness to my advantage. As a cornerback, I'm good at reading the defenses and wide receivers. I love pressing and getting physical. Plus, I've been around football almost my entire life."

When did you first start playing cornerback?
"I guess when I was eight years old."

You've been playing cornerback that long? It ought to be natural for you, then.
"Yes sir, it is natural to me now. I'm used to it."

What areas of your game do you feel you need to improve?
"I just need to get better overall with my game, make better decisions, get bigger, faster, stronger, and quicker."

Your coach gave me your fullback stats. What were your stats on the defensive side of the ball?
"I had 43 tackles and 2 interceptions."

Did you earn any honors after your junior season?
"I was first-team All-State as a junior."

Did you attend any college football camps last summer?
"I attended Auburn's and Alabama's football camps last summer."

Do you plan on attending any camps this summer?
"I plan on going to Alabama's senior mini-camp and also either Mississippi State or Ole Miss. I'm going to attend one of those."

You attended the April Nike Camp in Tuscaloosa. How did the folks there say you did?
"They said they were impressed with me and felt that I did pretty good. I also felt I did good." [Actually, Eric did better than good. He was hands down the best DB at the camp according to the recruiting analysts that were there.-Gene]

Have you grown up a fan of any college or colleges?
"I like Alabama because some of the players from their 1992 National Championship team were from our area. I really like Florida State also."

What schools are sending you letters?
"All of the SEC schools except for Kentucky and LSU. Well, Kentucky has sent me one. Outside of the SEC, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State has sent me a lot...I got one from them today...Syracuse, N.C. State, UCLA, and USC." [There were numerous others as well. The list was just too long for Eric to remember all of them.-Gene]

Have you received any calls during May from college coaches?
"Yes sir, from the Alabama coach and the Mississippi State coach. Those are the only two right now."

I realize it is very, very early in the recruiting process and the answer to this next question could very easily change in the future. What schools are you most interested in at this time?
"Right now, I would say Alabama, possibly Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, N.C. State as well as Arkansas and Ohio State."

I appreciate your time, Eric.
"Yes sir."
